Yao Ming finishes his Economics degree in China

Yao Ming

When it comes to education, Houston Rockets icon Yao Ming definitely knows that there’s a capital gain, at least in terms of knowledge.

According to Torrey Hart of Yahoo Sports, the amiable former Rockets center has finally accomplished one of his life goals by finishing his studies and graduating with a degree in Economics from a university in Shanghai.

After enrolling at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China in 2011, former NBA star Yao Ming finally graduated this weekend with an economics degree.

Unlike other celebrity students, Yao relished his time in his campus, engrossing himself in the life of being a college pupil outside of the classroom, per Li Xiang of CGTN.com.

Yao enrolled as an economics student in the university’s Antai College of Economics and Management in 2011. Besides studying, he also participated in many events on campus. He worked as a representative for the university’s 46th sports meeting. He also conveyed his well-wishes at the 120th anniversary of the university.

Yao understands that while he has plenty of assets acquired through his earnings as an NBA superstar, education is something that does not depreciate, so he decided to exchange studying basketball plays for lessons in mercantilism, regression analysis, and inflation, among others, upon his retirement in 2011 from the sport that has made him a global icon.

Is Yao Ming the tallest Economics degree-holder in the world? We’re not sure about that, but his graduation must have forced his tailor to consider whether he/she had enough supply of fabric to answer the demand of dressing up the 7-foot-5 giant college graduate.
