What Rockets’ Danuel House did before exiting bubble following female COVID-19 tester incident

Danuel House, Rockets, COVID-19

Houston Rockets swingman Danuel House had a female COVID-19 tester in his hotel room at the Walt Disney bubble for multiple hours, which violated NBA rules.

As a result of his mistake, House was forced to leave the bubble while the Rockets were playing the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the playoffs. Per multiple reports, Houston players were very upset with House’s actions.

Kelly Iko of The Athletic has more on the House situation, as the Rockets reporter is reporting that House apologized to the entire team before exiting the bubble.

From what I understand, Danuel House apologized to the entire (Rockets) team before exiting the bubble. It was a bad decision made on his part, but one that didn’t just affect the team — it might have affected his future.

Now, the biggest question becomes his standing with the team. House violated the number one rule of veteran teams: trust. D’Antoni was a big fan of House, but he’s gone now. The decision of House’s future now more or less lies in Daryl Morey’s hands. Between now and whenever the 2020-21 season begins, House will have to work to regain the trust of his teammates. This probably isn’t as extreme as a “time heals all wounds” case, but there’s certainly work to do. Cutting him from the team outright would be pretty bold, in my opinion, given the team-friendly deal, his fit with the group, and his production. But I’m just a beat writer. I think “up in the air” is a fair assessment of his (Rockets) status at this point.

House averaged 11.4 points and 5.8 rebounds for the Rockets in nine playoff games against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Lakers. Houston fell to the Lakers in five games after winning Game 1 of the series.

House is set to make $3,717,000 in 2020-21 and $3,894,000 in 2021-22. It’s going to be interesting to see what the Rockets do with the small forward after his mistake in the bubble.

The Rockets will have a new head coach next season after Mike D’Antoni decided not to come back.
