WATCH: Russell Westbrook threads the needle for the assist

Rockets, Russell Westbrook

Houston Rockets point guard Russell Westbrook has been one of his team’s primary playmakers over the last few weeks, averaging 9.0 assists in his last nine games.

Westbrook showcased some of his court vision on Sunday afternoon against the New Orleans Pelicans, threading a pass between a pair of Pelicans defenders to feed Ben McLemore for the assist:

January was a fairly inconsistent month for the Rockets from a team perspective, but Westbrook posted his best splits of the season.

The former MVP averaged 32.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 8.2 assists while shooting better than 52 percent from the field, though he did shoot just 25 percent from deep.

Westbrook had been particularly dominant in Houston’s last six games prior to Sunday. He averaged 35.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 2.4 steals during that stretch, according to NBA.com.

The dominant January is likely what helped Westbrook get selected to the NBA All-Star Game as a reserve, and the Rockets need him to maintain his consistency if they hope to climb back towards the top of the Western Conference standings.
