Warriors’ Steve Kerr says the NBA is seeing ‘the very best’ of Rockets star James Harden

Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden is in the midst of another MVP-caliber season, and his performance this year has not gone unnoticed by Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

James Harden has almost single-handedly lifted the Rockets back into the playoff picture over the last two weeks. And ahead of the Warriors’ meeting with the Rockets, Steve Kerr heaps praise on the reigning NBA MVP.

“We’re seeing the very best of James Harden doing what he does,” Kerr said. “Shooting his stepback three, getting fouled — just been on a huge run. It’s been amazing.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to Kerr’s comments. Harden is averaging 39.7 points and 8.5 assists over the last 11 games. He recently joined Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant as the only players to score 400 points in a 10-game span over the last 30 years. More importantly, he has led the Rockets to a 10-1 record during that span.

Of course, Harden’s numbers have come with their fair share of criticism. He has caught plenty of flak for the mind-boggling rate at which he gets to the free-throw line. There is no question that he has benefited from taking advantage of the league’s rules. However, it would be unfair to knock the fact that he is playing at a level only a few have enjoyed in NBA history.

It is safe to assume Kerr will do all he can to contain Harden when Golden State hosts Houston on Thursday night. The star-studded showdown could very well be the first in a long series of matchups between these two teams this season.
