Warriors’ Stephen Curry says ankle is fine, good for Game 1 vs. Rockets

Stephen Curry, Warriors

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry had an injury scare to his ankle during their Game 6 series-clinching victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.

But it looks like the two-time NBA MVP will be good to go for Game 1 of their second-round mega showdown against the Houston Rockets, per Marc Spears of ESPN.

Curry appeared to have rolled his ankle when he accidentally stepped on the foot of Clippers rookie Landry Shamet in the first quarter. He hobbled for quite a few plays before heading to the locker room to evaluate the bum ankle.

Fortunately, the tweak was not serious and Curry eventually made his way back on the floor and went on to play 38 minutes for the defending champions in Game 6.

The three-time champion had a solid all-around game for Golden State to help them close out the Clippers on the road, where they have won three straight.  Curry scored a steady 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, and also added six points and six assists.

Nevertheless, despite being cleared for Game 1 against the Rockets, this is still something worth monitoring as the 2019 edition of last year’s Western Conference Finals moves along.

Curry has had a history of ankle problems in the past, especially in his earlier years in the league. He even had surgery in April 2012 to address recurring ankle issues.

Needless to say, the back-to-back champions will surely need their leader to be healthy throughout the playoffs. They will definitely be in a dog fight against the Rockets in the Western Conference Semis, thus, Curry’s presence on the floor is a must if they want to get past arguably their greatest threat to another NBA title in Houston.

Game 1 of this Western Conference bloodbath between the top-seeded Warriors and the fourth seed Rockets will be on Sunday.
