Warriors’ Kevin Durant urges ‘we’ve got our work cut out for us’ vs. Rockets
Kevin Durant followed Draymond Green’s comments on their awaiting Western Conference Finals matchup against the Houston Rockets, a team that wasn’t shy to point to their self-professed “obsession” with dethroning the defending champions over the offseason.
“We got our work cut out for us,” Durant said, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes. “It’s not going to be easy. We know they want to beat us, and we want to beat them. That’s just basketball.”
While Green narrowed the team’s focus to a series-by-series approach, Durant was more matter-of-factly about the team’s approach.
“No disrespect, but we were just focused on us during the season and how we can get better every day,” Durant said. “If we played them that night, that’s when we focused on them. But we didn’t try to look past whoever we played that night to think about Houston.”
“That’s no disrespect to them. We were just locked on what we wanted to do.”
Houston won the season series 2-1, including a down-to-the-wire season opener that laid the groundwork for their season.
This time around, both teams will be close to a finished product, as the Rockets and Warriors will have healthy rosters to put in play during a series that will involve discipline, coaching tactics, and plenty of offensive firepower.
Head coach Steve Kerr hinted that this could be an opportunity for Nick Young, who had his best game of the season during the season-opener, making 6-of-7 from long-range en route to 23 points.
