Warriors’ Kevin Durant (ankle) will not play Wednesday vs. Rockets

Kevin Durant, Warriors

The Golden State Warriors had a rough night on Monday, losing both Kevin Durant to another injury and the game against the lowly Phoenix Suns, 115-111.

Durant tweaked his ankle during the fourth quarter of the contest and didn’t return to action. He was diagnosed with a right ankle contusion, which also happened to be the same ankle that got banged up earlier this month in a match against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported on Twitter that KD didn’t participate during the Warriors’ practice session on Tuesday and is expected to miss Wednesday’s showdown against the Rockets in Houston.

Slater would also emphasize in his tweet that Durant is listed as day-to-day, and that his status will be up in the air for a marquee matchup against his former team the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. As such, OKC fans attending Saturday’s contest may not have a chance to see their former superstar duel against Russell Westbrook in Golden State’s lone trip to Oklahoma City this regular season.

While the loss of Durant – and a humiliating defeat to the Suns, to an extent – is a huge blow for the Warriors, there’s no need to hit the panic button just yet. They don’t need to rush their MVP back into action whatsoever considering that they still pretty much have a stranglehold of the top seed in the Western Conference.

Durant’s extensive history with lower-body injuries has been well-documented. However, the 30-year-old phenom has always recovered with flying colors after every unfortunate incident. Still, the Warriors have got to be worried about KD’s long-term health, especially considering that he’d just reeled off injuries to the same ankle in quick succession this month alone.
