Warriors guard Klay Thompson drains nine threes to force Game 7 vs. Rockets [VIDEO]
Things weren’t looking good for the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors in Game 6 against the Houston Rockets. James Harden and company were firing on all cylinders in the first half and seemed to be well on their way to clinching the series in spectacular fashion on the road.
However, the second half was another story for the Warriors with Klay Thompson emerging as the team’s savior once again in a critical Game 6. Thompson torched Houston as he went on to score 35 points and was virtually unstoppable from beyond the arc.
Thompson’s game-high 35 points helped the Warriors climb out of the hole they dug for themselves in the first half. Golden State needed a spark, and that’s exactly what Thompson provided. The 28-year-old guard when 9-for-14 from three-point range against the Rockets and also made an impact defensively with four steals to add to an incredible all-around performance.
Ultimately, Thompson’s scoring barrage in the second half was enough to help force what will almost certainly be an epic Game 7 in Houston with arguably the two best teams in the league battling it out to advance to the NBA Finals.
In 16 games played during this playoff run thus far, Thompson is averaging 20.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 rebounds per game. He’s also shooting a postseason career-high 42.6 percent from deep and 45.5 percent from the field.
If the Warriors want to advance to the NBA Finals for a fourth straight year, Thompson will have to continue playing at a high level in Game 7 on Monday in Houston with everything on the line for the star-studded squad looking to win back-to-back titles.
