Warriors find most success vs. Rockets in 5-year playoff run

Rockets, Warriors

A lot of emphasis has been placed on the fact that the Golden State Warriors have eliminated the Houston Rockets from the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. However, what most people don’t seem to remember is that the Dubs have eliminated Houston from playoff contention in four of the last five seasons.

The Warriors’ classic Game 7 victory against the Rockets in the Western Conference Finals last year was pretty memorable, and that was highlighted once again when Steve Kerr’s side beat Houston in Game 6 on Friday to advance to the 2019 West Finals.

Besides their past two matchups, however, both teams also met in the conference finals back in 2015 and then in the first round the following year. As expected, Golden State has won both series.

The only time the Warriors didn’t face the Rockets in the playoffs during that span was in 2017.

Remarkably, that was the Warriors’ winningest run against any team in the playoffs in the past five years. They beat the Cleveland Cavaliers three times during that span, while winning twice against the San Anotnio Spurs, New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers.

Despite having James Harden, one of the best pure scorers the league has ever seen, the Rockets can’t seem to figure out a way to beat the Warriors in the playoffs. Friday night was the best chance they had because Kevin Durant wasn’t playing and Stephen Curry went scoreless in the first half, but they still failed to win Game 6. To make matters worse, Houston lost the series at home.

Heading into another offseason, Houston will once again construct a roster that will be capable of standing toe-to-toe with the Warriors. Only this time, they hope to finally end their struggles against the Dubs in the playoffs.
