Warriors coach Steve Kerr aware of daunting road challenge, but says team will ‘let it rip’ vs. Rockets in Game 6

The Golden State Warriors face a daunting challenge on Friday for Game 6 of the conference semifinals, needing to beat the Houston Rockets on the road to muster the most rest possible after the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers are slated for a Game 7 to decide it all.

Head coach Steve Kerr knows that if successful, it will grant his starters the due rest they deserve after playing heavy minutes throughout this series, but that won’t come without a fight at the Toyota Center:

“We’re at a great spot. We’re up 3-2 with championship rings on our fingers and a lot of experience and a lot of confidence that comes from that, so let’s go out there and let it rip,” said Kerr on Thursday night. “It’s always tough (to close a game out on the road) no matter what team you’re talking about, especially a team as good as Houston.

“We know the challenge ahead is a big one and a difficult one, but we’ll be ready to go.”

The Warriors are 0-2 in the confines of the Toyota Center this postseason and 1-1 in the regular season. Most importantly, they must close out the series without Kevin Durant, who is slated to be re-evaluated next week after suffering a mild strain of his right calf in the third quarter of Game 5.

The job will fall on the Splash Brothers — Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson — who must have great nights to beat out a Houston team that plays well at home and whose role players shine with the roar of the crowd.
