Warriors clinch playoff spot after Spurs loss to Rockets

Warriors, Rockets, Spurs

While most teams need to reach a certain number of games won in order to secure a postseason ticket, the Golden State Warriors did it in another way. In fact, they didn’t even play on Monday night to clinch their playoff spot this season.

Following the loss of the San Antonio Spurs against the Houston Rockets, the Dubs are once again headed to the playoffs, where they will look to defend the title they won last season and become champions for the third time in four years, according to Michael C. Wright of ESPN.

With a current record of 51-16, the Warriors are in second place in the highly competitive Western Conference, trailing the top-seeded Rockets by a game-and-a-half. They still have 14 games left in their schedule to try and catch up with them, and secure home court advantage at least through the entire playoffs. They could still own it in the Finals if they end up with a better record with whoever they may go up against, and if they make it that far for the fourth straight season.

The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday when they face the Los Angeles Lakers inside Oracle Arena. With the playoff spot now secured, they can focus solely on ending the regular season by stringing as many wins as they can to put them in the best possible position to defend their title. Stephen Curry, who is recovering from an ankle injury is expected to suit up for them again soon which will get them to full strength and even more difficult to beat.
