Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors had a unique way of contesting Clint Capela’s jumper.
With the shot clock running down, Capela had to launch a premier shot — a shot that he’s not known for. And Durant was well-aware that Capela would likely miss the shot.

Was Durant’s antics effective or not? It’s hard to tell, but perhaps the airball says it all. Though Durant is mostly known for his offensive skills, he’s also one of the best defenders in the league today. He utilizes his long arms to clog passing lanes and contest shots. It helps that he’s a lot quicker than most players who are way shorter than him.
In an old interview, Durant thought it was “cool” that people are finally recognizing his defensive capabilities, per Drew Shiller of NBCS Sports:
“It’s cool that people are starting to recognize me for more than just a scorer,” Durant said that night. “I’ve been trying to shake that rap since 2012. … You want people to appreciate what you bring to the table.”
“I feel like my whole game is unlocked now, when I was able to see the things I can do on that side of the basketball. … I’m never gonna get a look when it comes to that, especially playing here for the Warriors.”
The clip above is proof that Durant goes to extremes at trying to contest a shot.
