Video: Trevor Ariza takes a shot while inbounding the ball

No one expected the Houston Rockets to have a hard time dealing with an Atlanta Hawks team that is about to finish the season at the bottom of the NBA Eastern Conference standings. While the Rockets are projected to go deep in the playoffs, the Hawks are bound for the lottery, where they hope they could draft a franchise messiah.

For now, the Hawks look like a team mercifully begging for this season to end, especially when they are getting absolutely disrespected by opposing teams on the court – just like what Rockets forward Trevor Ariza seemingly did to them in one instance in the game.

If the Rockets, or at least Ariza, truly did treat this game like they would against any other team regardless of their opponent’s record, then it’s unlikely for Ariza to chuck up a three from the inbound as if to say “We’re facing bums anyway. I might as well do this at least once in my career.”

In other words, Trevor Ariza had his own YOLO moment against Atlanta.

Then again, the Rockets’ shot clock was running out, so it also made sense for Ariza to put the ball as close to the basket as possible. It could also be something Ariza have learned from Phoenix Suns head coach Jay Triano.

The Rockets are cruise-control during these final days of the NBA regular season. They are toying with the competition right now, By beating the Hawks, 118-99 win, Houston did not just expand their lead atop the Western Conference standings but also became the first team this season to reach 60 wins.

Ariza could be tempted to hit crazy shots on the court again this coming Tuesday opposite the also-tanking Chicago Bulls at home. The Rockets are on a nine-game win streak.
