Video: Trevor Ariza scores five points in 17 seconds during clutch stretch

Trevor Ariza

In a thrilling game between two elite teams on Saturday night, the Houston Rockets were able to rally and then hold on for a 123-120 win over the Boston Celtics at Toyota Center for their 15th victory in a row. Rockets small forward Trevor Ariza was a big reason for Houston’s clutch play down the stretch to keep their winning streak intact, scoring five of his 21 points on the night in a span of 17 seconds late in the fourth quarter.

With just over 90 ticks left in regulation and the Rockets down 115-112, superstar guard James Harden missed a 3-pointer and Celtics guard Terry Rozier was able to track down the rebound. Right under the basket, Houston’s P.J. Tucker was able to rip the ball from Rozier’s grasp and Chris Paul was able to get a hold of the loose ball. With Ariza wide open from behind the arc, Paul quickly passed the ball to him for the clutch game-tying trey.

However, Ariza was not done yet by any means as he stole the ball on the Celtics’ next offensive possession and raced down the court for the go-ahead layup, giving the Rockets a 117-115 lead that they would not give up the rest of the way.

A video of the two sequences involving Ariza’s heroics, which was uploaded to ESPN’s official Twitter account, can be viewed below in all of its glory.

In 34 minutes of action on Saturday night, the 32-year-old Ariza had 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting, three steals, three rebounds, and two assists. Houston (49-13) will look for their 16th consecutive win on Tuesday night when they travel to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
