Video: Rockets star James Harden sends message to Houston after joining soccer ownership group

Houston Rockets superstar James Harden recently decided to become part of the ownership group of his city’s MLS club, the Houston Dynamo, as well as the Houston Dash of the NWSL. Harden gave a statement on his business move and how it reflects on his view of the city he calls home:

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to join the ownership group of the Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash and proud to be a part of a club with tremendous history and a great future. Houston is my home now, and I saw this as a way to invest in my city and expand my business interests at the same time. Soccer in general, and especially MLS, have exploded in this country throughout my lifetime. I’ve been a fan of the game for several years, and I know that Houston has a massive soccer fanbase, so it was an easy decision for me when this opportunity arose.”

Harden isn’t the first NBA player to invest in a soccer team. LeBron James is an avid supporter of Liverpool and invested $6.5 million in the club, which has netted him great returns.

Harden’s investment is much more personal. It shows he is dedicated to the city and ready to stay for the long haul. Houston fans and residents no doubt appreciate the move and hope to see James Harden earn a ring in exchange for the loyalty and love he has shown the city.
