VIDEO: Rockets’ James Harden closes 3rd quarter vs. Magic with block, buzzer-beater

James Harden, Rockets

Houston Rockets superstar James Harden often takes flak for his defense (or lack thereof), but he certainly proved against the Orlando Magic that he can also get it done on the other end.

With the Rockets up comfortably by 16 against the Magic, 94-78, with 3.4 seconds left in third quarter of their match at the Amway Center on Friday, Harden displayed solid defense that translated to good offense.

Magic guard Michael Carter-Williams drove close to the cup and got his initial defender, Austin Rivers, off his feet with a nice head fake.

But Harden came over from behind and swatted away Carter-Williams’ attempt and managed to take the ball away from him. Seeing some time still left in the clock, the NBA’s leading scorer raced to the other end of the floor and got past DJ Augustin. He threw a left-handed heave as time expired, giving Houston a 96-78 lead heading to the fourth.

The Rockets went on to win the game, 130-107, to improved their record to 16-8. Harden once again led all scores with 54 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
