Video: Rockets’ Eric Gordon forces overtime vs. Lakers with clutch 3-pointer

Eric Gordon was not going to allow the Houston Rockets lose at home in regulation to the visiting Los Angeles Lakers.

With less than five seconds left in the fourth quarter of the game and with the Rockets trailing Los Angeles by three points, Gordon took an inbound pass from Austin Rivers and knocked down a triple to tie the game with. There were still two ticks for the Lakers to try to win it in regulation but was not able to convert on a desperation 40-foot heave from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Gordon simply took advantage of the Lakers’ defenders being too focused on James Harden and found his spot to get the ball and rise up for the game-tying shot.

The Rockets are missing plenty of bodies with the injury bug biting a number of key Rockets players. That has left Houston relying on Harden to put up monster numbers on an almost nightly basis. Gordon has also seen his usage rise up, as expected, and together with Harden, he’s among the few healthy Rockets with the ability to put up sizable numbers on offense.

Gordon, a product of the Indiana Hoosiers program, entered the Lakers’ game averaging 15.5 points, 2.2 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game.
