Video: Pelicans’ Jahlil Okafor runs the floor and finishes the break with huge slam vs. Rockets

Jahlil Okafor, Pelicans

Jahlil Okafor of the New Orleans Pelicans ran the floor and was rewarded with a sweet dish before finishing with a huge slam in the third quarter of Tuesday night’s game against the Houston Rockets.

Check out the clip below posted by Bleacher Report. As observed, even his teammates were surprised by the 23-year-old Duke Blue Devils product’s big finish.

Okafor, who was selected third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2015 NBA Draft, has been written off as a draft bust over the past few years. But over the last few games for the Pelicans, the 6-foot-11 center has seemingly rejuvenated his career. Per Oleh Kosel of SB Nation, below his Okafor’s stat line in the last four games:

Against the Rockets, Okafor logged another big night. He had 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line to go with 12 rebounds.

The challenge now for Okafor is to be consistent. When this happens, he just might turn his career around from being tagged as a draft bust, to being one of the most talented big men in the NBA. Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry commended Okafor for his efforts on both ends of the floor.

If all goes well, we just might see the real reason why Okafor was among the top college prospects back then.
