Video: New Adidas ad calls James Harden ‘the greatest scorer ever’

Adidas, Rockets, James Harden

Houston Rockets All-Star James Harden has established himself as one of the greatest scorers in history. His crossover dribbles and step-back jumpers often leave defenders scratching their heads, but is he the best to ever do it? Is The Beard the greatest scorer of all time?

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has infamously made this claim, and Adidas also apparently thinks he is. In fact, the popular sports apparel company said as much in a recent promo video:

“James Harden is different,” the narrator says during Adidas’ video clip. “Game… different. Swag… different. Step-back… way different. And if being the greatest scorer ever makes you different… then that too.”

Harden may indeed be the best scorer the NBA has ever known, though there are some who might like to make cases for other players, such as Michael Jordan. Harden’s list of accolades are longer than a country mile, and he doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of regression. The former No. 3 overall pick has earned seven All-Star nods, five All-NBA First-Team selections and two scoring crowns (2018 and 2019).

Harden, who is currently ranked 63rd on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, is coming off his most productive season on the offensive end of the floor. He made 78 regular-season appearances with the Rockets (all starts), racking up averages of 36.1 points on 44.2 percent shooting from the field (36.8 percent from beyond the arc), 7.5 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 36.8 minutes per outing. For the record, his 36.1 points per game were a career-high mark.

This season will likely be a bit different for Harden, however, as he has been reunited with Russell Westbrook. Both players are known as prolific scorers, so it will be interesting to see how the Rockets fare.
