Video: Lip-reading suggests Chris Paul called referee a ‘b–ch’

Chris Paul

The Houston Rockets played with anger and a with a more intense sense of urgency Wednesday night in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals against the Golden State Warriors. Rockets guard Chris Paul’s intensity, however, was just on a different level as not even referee Ken Mauer was spared of the Point God’s wrath.

With under a minute left in the second period and with the Rockets ahead by 16 points, Mauer called a traveling violation on Chris Paul, who, as expected, did not like his being tagged with a turnover. Before sprinting downcourt to play defense, Paul made sure Mauer heard what was on his mind when he appeared to hurl an invective at the game official.

Paul was fortunate enough that Mauer had some leash on his patience. Otherwise, he could’ve picked up a technical foul for showing some attitude.

That turnover did not affect Houston’s chances of winning the contest, too, as the Rockets ended up with a 127-105 win over the Warriors to tie the series up at 1-1. Paul finished the game with 16 points and six assists, while James Harden and Eric Gordon each had 27 to pace the team. PJ Tucker, meanwhile, pulled off the biggest surprise of the night by going off for a playoff career-high of 22 points with five 3-pointers.

The Rockets now eye to take the upper hand for the first time in the series when they pay Golden State a visit this Sunday.
