Video: James Harden seals win for Rockets with clutch defensive strip

James Harden. Rockets

On Wednesday night, the Houston Rockets defeated the Utah Jazz by a final score of 100-93, sealing back-to-back series wins over the Jazz by a 4-1 margin dating back to last year’s postseason.

The Rockets look to be a scary team as they can either win by blitzing teams on offense, as they did early on in the series versus Utah, or by slowing it down and shutting teams down on the defensive end — as they did in Wednesday night’s decisive Game 5 victory.

Even James Harden, who is widely regarded as a lesser defensive player, got in on the act and produced a sterling defensive stop when the Rockets needed it the most.

With 42 seconds left on the clock and the Rockets up by three, Joe Ingles drove into the lane and found a cutting Rudy Gobert. James Harden, who was trailing Ingles, stopped short after Gobert received the ball and immediately swatted down on it, allowing him to come away with an extremely clutch steal.

Harden is a sneakily good post defender, and his instincts kicked in immediately on this clutch defensive stop, as the ball barely even touched Gobert’s hands before Harden knocked it away.

With the Rockets moving on, it likely sets up a titanic tussle between Houston and Golden State — a rematch of last season’s iconic Western Conference Finals.
