Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden had an eruption on Tuesday in a 114-107 win over the Orlando Magic at home, as the bearded superstar dropped a triple-double in that contest. But even then, his performance was way more than just about getting double-digits in three statistical categories. Harden left a lot of people stunned, by becoming the first NBA player to score at least 60 points in a triple-double performance. In other words, Harden played as though he was in The Matrix.
Harden finished the Orlando game with video-game numbers of 60 points, going 19-of-30 shooting from the field with five three-pointers, and 17-of-18 from the foul line. He also had 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Harden further stuffed that stat sheet with four steals and a block in 46 minutes. Despite his incredibly high usage, Harden only committed five turnovers.

Harden is easily one the favorites to win this season’s MVP plum. The Rockets’ statistical machine is averaging a close triple-double of 31.6 points, 91. assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 44.9 percent from the floor with a 62.2 true shooting percentage. Harden leads the league in offensive win shares and in win shares. It should also be noted that he is benefiting big time from Rockets head coach Mike D’Antonti’s freewheeling system. Under D’Antoni, the Rockets are second in the league in points with 114.1 per game.
James Harden will look to keep it going this Thursday against the San Antonio Spurs on the road.
