Video: Eric Gordon banks shot from half-court versus Timberwolves

Eric Gordon, Chris Paul

The Houston Rockets are second only to the Golden State Warriors in terms of long-ball capability. Needless to say, they flexed their range from deep in a dominant win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon took it to heart.

The Rockets could do no wrong against the Timberwolves at the Toyota Center on Thursday night. However, things got a bit out of hand when Gordon nailed a halfcourt shot with time winding down in the third quarter.

The reigning 3-point champion, Gordon is known as one of the deadliest shooters in the league, which may have been the reason why he played the shot off so well. That said, it happened to be one of those nights for the former Sixth Man of the Year as he finished with a game-high 30 points on an efficient 11-0f-19 shooting. As usual, Gordon did most of his damage from deep as shot 7-of-13 from 3-point land.

With star guard James Harden still not a 100 percent due to a hamstring injury, the Rockets have relied heavily on Gordon even more than before. Fortunately, Harden has returned, albeit on a minutes restriction, which means Gordon will continue to shoulder a larger workload for the time being.

His strong performance in the win over the Timberwolves was just what Gordon needed to get back on track after largely struggling since the start of the new year. It seems that the only thing a shooter like him needs is to see the ball go in just a few times to find his touch as evidenced by his impressive heave against Minnesota.
