Video: Chris Paul gets technical for thinking face emoji

Chris Paul

Does life imitate art? Or does art imitate life? We are guessing that Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul has finally found the answer to it that would satisfy him when he was called for a technical foul during Saturday night’s home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder for merely trying to make a real-life version of the thinking face emoji.

Chris Paul was frustrated at a referee who called an offensive foul on him when he was obviously the one trying to get a foul call from Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook. Paul initially did take the penalty calmly, walking back on defense without any reaction, but he simply could not keep his emotions in check for that long, as he tried to mock the game official with a sarcastic gesture people nowadays would normally see in texts and chats.

This also just shows how serious the Rockets are in their pursuit of success this season. Houston does not have anything on the line Saturday night against the Thunder. After all, the Rockets will finish the regular season No. 1 in the Western Conference regardless of what happens in the next few days. If anything, the Rockets probably just want to do their part in hurting the playoff chances of Oklahoma City. The Thunder entered the game with a 27 percent chance of missing the boat to the postseason, per PlayoffStatus.com. A win for the Rockets could also add to their psychological advantage over the Thunder, who could end up eighth in the West, which, in that case, would mean a first-round playoff date with Houston.

After the Thunder game, the Rockets will go on a two-game road trip against the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings, respectively, to end their regular season schedule.
