Tracy McGrady says anyone can win championship, not make Hall of Fame

Tracy McGrady

Tracy McGrady may come off as bitter about never winning a championship.

Once one of the most prolific and talented players in the NBA, he never got past the first round of the playoffs until hopping on a Spurs team in the twilight of his career.

McGrady still takes pride in his accomplishments, as he should, having this to say recently regarding winning championships and the Hall of Fame.

Via Mass Live:

“Social media can give a lot of people voices these days, and the first thing they say is ‘No rings, no rings,’” McGrady said on Friday, in an appearance at the Hall of Fame’s 60 Days of Summer Program. “You have to have a great team and some luck to get a ring, right? Unfortunately, I wasn’t blessed with that. But I go back at them with this: Anybody can win a championship. Everybody can’t get in the Hall of Fame.”

McGrady definitely makes a good point but surely those who have won championships might not take this the right way. It does sound like McGrady is trying to remind a lot of players that won rings that he is better than them.

Rings can’t be the only aspect when defining a player’s career or legacy, but it does play a role. Not every player has the same opportunity to win but the truly great players always seem to find a way.

McGrady came up short on a lot of occasions when he probably shouldn’t have and that has to still sting.
