Tracy McGrady doesn’t think Carmelo Anthony is a great addition to Houston
Houston Rockets legend Tracy McGrady doesn’t think adding Carmelo Anthony to the roster was the best move for the team. Anthony has been highly criticized since his underwhelming lone season playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He posted career lows in points (16.2), assists (1.3) and field goal percentage (40.4).
Anthony will be playing under Mike D’Antoni in Houston, who he doesn’t have the best history with. D’Antoni coached Anthony on the New York Knicks, but the two often clashed. Many believe that elite drive and kick players like James Harden and Chris Paul will be a better fit for Anthony. He should be able to become more of a spot up shooter thanks to their ability to draw defenders and dish the ball to the corners.
Tracy McGrady thinks that the move is good for Carmelo Anthony, but not necessarily the franchise as a whole.
“As for signing Carmelo (Anthony), I think this is a good operation for him personally, but not necessarily for the team. Because the Rockets lost too much defensive ability, Anthony can score, but defense It’s the Rockets’ strong place last season. We have to see what height they can reach. I don’t know if they can reach the Western Conference Finals. Maybe they can make it to the West, maybe they will be eliminated in the first round.”
Anthony isn’t going to be an amazing defender, but he will look to prove naysayers wrong this year. He has the potential to see a resurgence, thanks to the new offensive sets he’ll be in this year. Even if he’s not a great fit from the start, he will be one of the best third option scorers in the NBA.
