Top four NBA teams in West have not lost since Valentine’s Day

The top four teams in the Western Conference have been on an absolute tear during the 2017-18 NBA season, winning 39 combined games straight in between them, plowing through the rest of their competition as they all make a run for the highest possible seed prior to the postseason.

According to A.J. Neuharth-Keusch of USA TODAY Sports, the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers, and New Orleans Pelicans have not lost since Valentine’s Day, the last big slate of games prior to the All-Star break.

The Rockets have now won 16 straight after breezing past the Oklahoma City Thunder, followed by the Warriors’ six straight, the Blazers’ eighth win in a row, and the ninth for the Pelicans.

Funnily enough, these top four dogs have been beaten only by themselves in recent memory since the Golden State was last beat by Portland and Houston was last beat by New Orleans, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

Neither of these teams have let go of the rope with the Rockets and Warriors waiting for the other to lose to notch the top overall spot, while the Blazers and the Pelicans only have a game in between them separating third from fourth — clawing their way to every result after leaving the Minnesota Timberwolves and the San Antonio Spurs behind after their recent woes.

This streak of 39 could easily turn into more as all four of these teams have been locked in even with Damian Lillard and Anthony Davis emerging as potential MVP candidates to challenge frontrunner James Harden for the award at season’s end.
