Timberwolves’ Derrick Rose credits Karl-Anthony Towns, Robert Covington for comeback vs. Rockets
Derrick Rose gave some deserving praise to teammates Karl-Anthony Towns and Robert Covington for their work on defense against the Houston Rockets, a game that saw the Minnesota Timberwolves pull back to the .500 mark after starting the season 4-9 with Jimmy Butler on the roster.
Since, the Wolves have gone an impressive 8-3, powered by a newly determined Towns and injected with the toughness and defensive mettle of Covington, who has proved a difference-maker for the team.
“That’s all KAT and Rob. When you them two guys playing at a high level on the defensive end, you have no other choice but to follow them,” said Derrick Rose, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
The Wolves put up perhaps their best performance in comeback fashion against the Rockets, putting together a defensive clinic and limiting them to a nine-point fourth quarter.
After trailing by 14 at the half, Wolves players met in private at halftime and orchestrated a strong rally, outscoring Houston by 18 in the third to take the lead and putting the finishing touches with a 17-9 difference in a lockdown fourth.
Covington filled the box score with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks, while Towns did KAT things with a 24-point, 11-rebound double-double. Towns played an important function defending the rim against a barreling James Harden and Eric Gordon when it counted the most.
The Timberwolves had six players in double digits, despite Derrick Rose going scoreless in his 25 minutes of play on Monday night.
