The exact moment James Harden knew he wanted out from Rockets

James Harden, Rockets

The James Harden era as a Houston Rocket has finally come to an end. While Harden was a key contributor for over eight years, the ending to his tenure came with a bitter taste.

The Rockets lost to the Los Angles Lakers in five games in the Western Conference Semifinals in September, and it was then that Harden knew he wanted to go elsewhere.

“I felt like we didn’t have a chance,” Harden said after the bubble ended, per Malika Andrews of ESPN.

Andrews also mentioned that “winning a title was the most important thing to him.”

Who can blame Harden for these thoughts? While every NBA player’s dream and desire is to win a championship, Harden and the Rockets were certainly competing year in and year out. Ultimately, they couldn’t get over the hump, and the LeBron James and Anthony Davis duo in Los Angeles—not to mention the Clippers—is a hard obstacle to overcome.

Harden now lands in Brooklyn and is set to make his debut against the Magic. The Nets have championship aspirations, and some have even said they are “title or bust.”

No. 13 had made up his mind, and this decision was engraved before general manager Daryl Morey left for the East Coast.

“Of note, James Harden came to this conclusion before Daryl Morey’s departure,” Tim MacMahon of ESPN tweeted.

Harden had made up his mind, and Houston had made every effort to salvage their relationship and keep one of the NBA’s superstars. As good as he was in his time in Texas, it was an inevitable parting for both sides.

Will James Harden get that all-so-important NBA title with the Nets?
