Suns head coach addressed Lakers-Rockets fight with team
The fracas that broke out between players of the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers last Saturday continues to be the talk of the NBA world, but not for Phoenix Suns head coach Igor Kokoskov.
According to Gina Mizell of The Athletic, Kokoskov did not try to talk about the fight that mostly involved all-time great point guards in Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul with his team ahead of a clash with the Lakers at home this coming Friday.
With shorthanded Lakers visiting Phoenix tomorrow, I asked #Suns coach Igor Kokoskov if he addressed the fight with his team (he didn’t): “Fist fight is not acceptable…Toughness is, after losing last night, coming here and having a good practice. That’s basketball toughness.”
Kokoskov obviously has a different concept of toughness on the basketball court, one that doesn’t involve planting a fist on other people’s faces. And he’s expecting his Suns to manifest that brand of tenacity in the Lakers game following back-to-back blowout losses to the Denver Nuggets and the Golden State Warriors.
The 1-2 Suns will gun for their second win of the season against the undermanned Lakers, who will be without Rondo and Brandon Ingram.
The on-court tussle in the Lakers-Rockets game resulted in league-ordered suspensions to Rondo, Paul, and Ingram for a combined total of nine games.
