Steve Kerr likes Warriors’ situation vs. Rockets
After a season’s worth of waiting, the highly-anticipated matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Finals is set to begin. Needless to say, head coach Steve Kerr is excited about the position Golden State is in.
Although the Warriors have been the NBA’s superpower for the past several years, there has been some concern about a potential championship hangover lingering around the team. Meanwhile, the Rockets have been highly-determined to get over the hump and make it to the NBA Finals.
However, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Kerr still feels his team has the advantage thanks to their championship pedigree:
“I like where we are. Our guys have rings. That’s a good position to be in.”
Kerr went on to explain how hard it is to win a championship for the first time. However, he feels that things become much more fluid after they have done so. It goes without saying that Kerr has had plenty of experience in this area both as a player and a coach.
Although there is good reason for his optimism, the Rockets are poised to give the Warriors a run for their money. Furthermore, Houston will have home-court advantage in this series, which will undoubtedly give them an edge to start off. The star backcourt pairing of Chris Paul and James Harden figures to be their toughest test yet. However, it is still safe to assume that the Rockets will need to play near-perfect basketball if they are to have a chance n this series.
