Steve Kerr compares Rockets series to Game of Thrones

Warriors, rockets, Game of Thrones

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr compared the urgent nature of this Western Conference Semifinal series against the Houston Rockets to an episode of Game of Thrones, due to the unlikelihood of such a high-stakes matchup taking place in the second round of play.

“Fire and fury — it sounds like the title of a ‘Game of Thrones’ episode,” said Kerr with a smile, according to CBS San Francisco. “They (the Rockets) are coming after us, we know that. (They are) a great team, they are competitive and tough. It’s just 2-0. We’ve done a good job of protecting our home court and now it is their chance to respond. We know we got to be ready for the force they are going to be coming with. Home crowd, all that stuff.”

Kerr pointed to how his team is perhaps being forced to peak earlier than usual to best their rivals, knowing his players have a couple of tough games ahead of them at the Toyota Center.

“This is pretty unique because Houston is not a team you normally would face in the second round,” said Kerr. “I’m sure they are saying the same thing about us. So we are going to need our full attention, our full effort — fire, intensity, however you want to put it.”

The Warriors defended home court and managed to go up 2-0 in the series, this time with the home court advantage they didn’t have last postseason. Golden State has been a sharp 3-0 on the road this postseason, but Kerr made clear that players must make it a priority to win and put the Rockets in an unescapable 3-0 hole.
