With the 2017-18 NBA regular season coming to a close, playoff-bound teams are battling for position as basketball fans discuss the yearly awards. After finishing second in last year’s Most Valuable Player award to Russell Westbrook, James Harden is considered the frontrunner after averaging 30.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists while leading the Houston Rockets to the league’s best record (62-14 with six games remaining).
However, there are numerous players who deserve consideration for the league’s greatest individual award. As LeBron James continues to play at an extremely high level in his 15th season, Anthony Davis and Damian Lillard have made strong pushes following the All-Star break. According to Mark Berman of FOX 26, Stephen Curry weighed in on the discussion:

As a former two-time league Most Valuable Player, Curry understands the media’s requirements to win the award. While there have been debates about Curry winning the award back-to-back seasons, he was clearly the best player with the league’s best record. As a result, it makes sense why the 30-year-old considers Harden the frontrunner.
With Curry expected to miss the first round of the playoffs, the Rockets are considered a legitimate threat to dethroning the Golden State Warriors, who are eyeing their third championship in four consecutive NBA Finals appearance. As Kevin Durant and Draymond Green have returned and Klay Thompson is nearing his return, it will be interesting to see how much time Curry ultimately misses and if they have enough time to make another deep playoff run.
Curry is averaging 26.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 51 appearances.
