Stephen Curry explains Klay Thompson’s importance to Golden State
On Friday night, Golden State Warriors star shooting guard Klay Thompson effectively ended the Houston Rockets’ season with a dagger trey with just 36 seconds remaining in the contest. It was definitely one of the biggest shots of the evening, and to say that Thompson came up big for the Dubs in Game 6 would be an absolute understatement.
Following their 118-113 series-clinching victory over the Rockets, Golden State superstar Stephen Curry explained why he believes Thompson plays an extremely important role for the team both on and off the court.
“His personality, his perspective on life, really makes him different in these moments,” Curry said, via The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II. “I don’t even know if he really even feels pressure. He’s just out there hooping. The shots he was taking in the first half — understanding the situation, the confidence to knock them down — that was huge for us. We don’t win this game tonight without everybody on the court, but especially Klay that first half to give us life and to give us a reason to be in it in the second half.”
Curry definitely has to give Thompson a lot of credit for picking up the slack in the first half following an uncharacteristically scoreless first two periods for Curry. Klay logged 21 of his 27 points in the first half alone, which was pretty much why the Warriors were able to keep it close despite Curry’s nightmare of a first half.
But then Curry went to work in the second half and produced an epic performance that will forever be etched in the history books. Staying true to form, Curry was quick to share the glory to his teammates, but no matter what he says, the lights are definitely going to be shining bright for him for this masterpiece.
