San Antonio Spurs All-Star shooting guard DeMar DeRozan says it’s “definitely surprising” Houston Rockets forward PJ Tucker has never made an All-Defensive Team.

Tucker is a stout wing defender and arguably one of the toughest guys in the NBA. DeRozan and Tucker were teammates on the Toronto Raptors, so the high-flyer knows first-hand what type of pest Tucker is on defense.

“PJ is one of the most intense individual defenders on the defensive end,” DeRozan told Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic. “I don’t think he gets enough credit for it. It’s definitely surprising that he’s never been on the All-Defensive Team. I definitely think he should.

“He got some great feet, great anticipation. It’s hard to get past him off the first step, or even with a counter. A lot of guys, and me personally, like to feel guys, put a body on guys and make a move off that. P.J. is such a strong guy. The first couple of moves, he can catch with his strength and with his feet as well. It makes it tough.”

DeMar DeRozan is one of the best scorers in the game. If he’s telling you how elite PJ Tucker is on defense, the voters who vote for the All-Defensive Team need to wake up.

The Rockets are in third place in the Western Conference standings. James Harden has been on a scoring tear all season, but Houston’s defense has been world-class since the All-Star break and Tucker is the main reason why.
