It’s safe to say San Antonio Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan is excited to play against his childhood friend and Houston Rockets All-Star James Harden.

San Antonio hosts Houston on Saturday night at the AT&T Center, and new Spur DeRozan is relishing the opportunity to go up against the reigning NBA MVP. DeRozan and Harden grew up playing together and were both part of the 2009 NBA Draft class.

“Whenever I get a chance to go up against him, that’s always one of those memorable moments because of just knowing where we came from and where we are at now,” DeMar DeRozan told Jonathan Feigen of Houston Chronicle.

“It’s always fun.”

DeRozan also reminisced his time with Harden and admitted that he considers the Rockets star as “family.”

“We talk a lot. We have the same circle of friends. To see where he is today, where I am today, we always talk about it,” DeRozan added. “It’s definitely amazing to see how far we have come when we thought we wouldn’t have anything.”

Fortunately for DeRozan, he will have plenty of chances to go up against Harden this 2018-19 campaign.

When he was with the Toronto Raptors, DeRozan gets to play Harden only twice in the campaign. Now that he’s with the Spurs and in the same division and conference as the Rockets, they are guaranteed to play four times this year.

DeRozan is currently averaging 26.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 6.8 assists for the 6-4 Spurs. Meanwhile, Harden is putting up 26.6 points on top of 5.4 rebounds and 7.7 assists on a nightly basis, though he already missed three games for the 4-6 Rockets this year.
