Sore knee forces Chris Paul to not finish game vs. Warriors

The Houston Rockets players had to check on the replay of the jumper Kevin Durant knocked down with time running out, before they figured out that he did not release it on time, and that they’ve won the game. While they celebrated on the court, one thing that was noticeable was Chris Paul already wearing his warmers, as he had to be pulled out of the game on Tuesday against the Golden State Warriors in its final minutes.

The nine-time All-Star was apparently suffering from the effects of a sore knee, and head coach Mike D’Antoni did not want him to aggravate it further, leading to his early exit. Paul was happy with the result his team had in their season opener though, and made it known, via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, that what matters most for him is the win.

“Man, I got through it,” said Paul. “It was cool. Tough game, but it’s all about getting the win.”

When asked if he will suit up on the second game of their back-to-back set on Wednesday, Paul admitted, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN, that he still does not know, and will have to talk it over with the coaches and trainers first.

“I don’t know. We’ll figure it out.”

Chris Paul did not shoot the ball particularly well on the night, as he was limited to only four points, on 2-of-9 shooting from the field. However, he made up for it by collecting eight rebounds and dishing out 11 assists. He was also part of the furious run the Rockets made in the second half to erase the 17-point deficit they once faced.

It’s still unclear whether he’ll suit up against the Sacramento Kings, but at this point of the season, it won’t come as a complete surprise if the Rockets will take a cautious approach on his injury, and give him the night off instead.

More details should emerge as tip off nears.
