‘Skinny’ James Harden nothing to worry about, claims Rockets’ Austin Rivers

Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden is one of the most skilled scorers in the NBA. He is also one of the smartest. Harden’s physicality allows him to attack the rim and draw fouls, resulting in the highest volume of free throws in the league at nearly 12 attempts per game.

But “The Beard” has apparently been getting after it with the season suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic. A picture of a leaner Harden surfaced this past weekend.

But for any Rockets fans freaking out about the transformation, Austin Rivers has a message: relax.

Rivers was asked about James Harden’s skinnier frame during an Instagram Live, and he argued “skinny Harden” might be even more dominant (via Josh Paredes of FanSided):

“I gotta see if that picture is real,” started Rivers. “Cause he looks — I don’t know what he’s been doing during quarantine. He looks good though.”

Austin also pointed out that a heavier Harden was still dominating:

“Y’all can call it what you want but ‘beefy’ Harden was averaging 36 so I don’t even know what skinny Harden is gonna do,” said Austin. “He definitely lost a cool 20 pounds.”

Harden might have to adapt to a new playing weight, though the potentially added quickness and speed could indeed make him more lethal.

The former Arizona State star was more of a springy and athletic player in college and during his early years with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Harden never really lost his athleticism, but basketball fans might see him employing new ways to shake defenders and assert his offensive dominance.
