Sixers’ Joel Embiid out vs. Bulls, could make trip to Houston

Joel Embiid, Sixers

Despite making steady progress from his knee injury, it has been confirmed that Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid is going to be out of commission for at least one more game.

Sixers head coach Brett Brown provided the update on his prized big man’s injury, and while he did confirm that Embiid will be out in his team’s next matchup against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, he did say that Embiid may be able to suit up for Philadelphia’s Friday night contest against the Houston Rockets:

“I hope so,” said Brown, as quoted in The (Wilmington) News Journal, via ESPN. “But I’d be reckless to declare it official. I believe there’s a chance that he may meet us in Houston.”

Embiid has been out of action since after the All-Star break, and Wednesday night against the Bulls will mark his seventh consecutive missed game. The knee issue does not appear to be anything serious, and a previous report did state that the 24-year-old began practicing with the team again earlier this week.

The Sixers are currently holding the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 41-23 record. They have won four out of their last six matchups without Embiid, so in truth, there is no motivation for the team to rush the 7-footer back to action. Even if he does return against the Rockets on Friday, it would not be surprising if Embiid is put under a minutes restriction, as the Sixers will definitely not want to take any chances here.
