Sam Dekker says he left Clippers on good terms

Sam Dekker

Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Sam Dekker holds no ill will against his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite spending only a year in L.A. before being shipped out to the Cavs, Dekker claims to have parted ways in good terms.

The 24-year-old did seem to have some regret about the short-lived relationship, but insists that there is no bad blood between himself and the Clippers organization. This is via Tom Dombeck of the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter.

“Both sides left it on a good term. The fit was just not the greatest and some things needed to be done, and that’s OK. That’s life and basketball,” Dekker told assembled media about his departure from the Clippers.”

The former Wisconsin standout was a highly-regarded stud in the 2015 NBA Draft. The Houston Rockets used their 18th overall pick to scoop up the 6-foot-9 forward, but unfortunately, things did not pan out as planned during his rookie campaign.

A string of back injuries forced him to miss all but three of the Rockets’ 82 regular season games. He bounced back in his sophomore year, but the impact he had on the squad was average, at best. This prompted the Rockets to include him in the trade package for the Chris Paul deal with the Clippers.

Despite establishing himself as part of head coach Doc Rivers’ rotation last season, Dekker was only able to produce pedestrian averages of 4.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.5 assists in 12.1 minutes off the Clippers bench.

Just this summer, the Clippers shipped off Dekker (along with Renaldas Seibutis and cash considerations) to the Cavs in exchange for Vladimir Veremeenko.

With his recent statement about his former team, Dekker has shown how he is a true professional. By not burning any bridges, Dekker is looking out for himself and his future in the NBA.
