Russell Westbrook sees an opportunity as Rockets faces adversity

With the Houston Rockets in the midst of a mini-slump, superstar point guard Russell Westbrook has opted to focus on the silver lining of his team’s current conundrum.

Following Wednesday night’s 117-107 defeat against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Rockets have now lost three out of their last four games. For his part, Westbrook acknowledged the problem at hand, but instead, has chosen to view this as an opportunity to show their collective mettle.

“The real measurement of a man is where you stand in adversity. So we’ll see,” he said, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN. “I live for things like this, and I know the guys in the locker room are feeling the same way. We’ve just got to stay with it.”

Russell Westbrook was tremendous on Wednesday, dropping a 31-point, 11-rebound, 12-assist triple-double, as he picked up the slack amidst James Harden’s off night (13 points on 3-of-12 from the field, 1-of-6 from distance). Nevertheless, Westbrook’s heroics were not enough to fend off a determined Blazers side. Notably, former Rocket Carmelo Anthony logged 18 points (on 7-of-10 shooting), 12 rebounds, and an assist against his former side.

The Rockets get two nights off and will be back in action on Saturday. Things are only going to get more difficult for them, however, as they host the current number one seed in the West in the Los Angeles Lakers. This should certainly present itself as a huge challenge for Westbrook and company, and an excellent opportunity to show their strength in the midst of adversity.
