Russell Westbrook says James Harden played a major role in getting him to Rockets

Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Rockets

In today’s NBA, superstars teaming up has become more common than ever. Superstar duos were formed left and right this offseason. The latest pairing is the Houston Rockets’ Russell Westbrook and James Harden.

At his introductory press conference on Friday, Westbrook discussed how he was convinced to join Houston, saying Harden was a major reason he was sold on becoming a Rocket:

It’s not uncommon for stars to recruit fellow stars. Recently, Kawhi Leonard personally recruited Paul George to join him in LA on the Clippers. LeBron James played a large part in winning over Anthony Davis. Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant planned to join the Nets together.

Selling Westbrook to join Houston shouldn’t have been too difficult for Harden. The Rockets have competed for a championship for the past two years, and Westbrook was on a sinking ship in Oklahoma City.

Additionally, the two players have a history together. Before Harden was traded to the Rockets in 2012, he played with Westbrook for three seasons. The pair seemed to have a strong connection on and off the court.

Now, the duo has a chance to rebuild that connection. Harden and Westbrook will have to prove plenty of naysayers wrong, as many think the two won’t be able to work together on the court.

However, it seems like the two are off to a strong start, and Russell Westbrook knows what he has to do to have success with James Harden.
