Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love to receive prestigious UCLA honor

NBA, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, UCLA

Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook and Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love once teamed together to dominate the hardwood during their college days at UCLA. Now, the NBA stars will headline the Bruins’ prestigious 2020 Hall of Fame induction class, which will also include Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

The Bruins made it to the Final Four during the 2007-08 season, the last season that both Westbrook and Love were on campus. Westbrook was then selected fourth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft, with Love coming off the board directly after him.

Westbrook makes the Bruins’ Hall of Fame despite playing only two seasons on campus. In his sophomore year, he earned Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors and entered the league with a reputation of being a tenacious on-ball defender. Since then, he has morphed into one of the most heralded NBA talents of the current generation, having averaged a triple-double for three consecutive seasons and collecting an MVP trophy.

Love has also blossomed into a talent even beyond that of his college days, having been named an All-Star on five separate occasions in addition to winning an NBA title in 2016.

While UCLA has not yet announced a date for the induction ceremony due to the complications arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, it appears that Westbrook and Love will be getting their day sooner rather than later. In a program littered with historic hardwood legends, Westbrook and Love will have their names etched into the history books.
