RUMOR: There’s still love for Trevor Ariza in Rockets’ front office

Trevor Ariza

There’s reportedly still love for veteran small forward Trevor Ariza in the Houston Rockets’ front office, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic.

Ariza becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer. He split time with the Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards this past season after playing for the Rockets from 2014-2018.

There’s still love for him in Houston, per team sources, it’s just a matter of the right contract. Since he’s gotten the $15 million, would he be willing to settle for something less? What would his market look like now, given his slight dropoff in defense and outside shooting?

Ariza signed a one-year, $15 million free agent deal with the Suns last offseason.

The Rockets replaced Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute from the 2017-18 team which had the best record in the NBA with Carmelo Anthony and Michael Carter-Williams. Both Anthony and Carter-Williams were bad fits in Houston and didn’t finish the 2018-19 season on the team.

Could Trevor Ariza come back to the Rockets this offseason for his third stint with the team? We’ll have to see. Ariza played in Houston during the 2009-10 season as well.

He knows the organization well and has a strong relationship with All-Stars Chris Paul and James Harden.
