Rumor: The contender P.J. Tucker will end up with, per execs

P.J. Tucker trade rumors, Rockets, Sixers

The NBA trade deadline is quickly approaching, and the buzz surrounding Houston Rockets forward P.J. Tucker has grown much louder. With the Rockets out of contention, a number of contenders are reportedly interested in the veteran.

TrueHoop’s Tom Haberstroh talked to some executives around the league, and there are some who have an idea where Tucker will end up:

Several rival executives expect disgruntled Rockets forward P.J. Tucker to find his way to Philadelphia, whether in a buyout or a trade that nets the Rockets a second-round pick.

The Philadelphia 76ers would receive a nice boost by bringing Tucker into the rotation, assuming he can regain his form. Tucker has struggled with his 3-point shooting this season at just 31.4%, but he’s at 36.5% from 3 throughout his Rockets tenure and can be deadly from the corners.

Really, that’s about how they’d use Tucker in Philadelphia as well. Whether it’s Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, or Tobias Harris driving to the hoop, having Tucker in the corner to launch triples would be useful. The Sixers don’t have the best depth in the world, so getting that 3-and-D veteran for an NBA championship run makes sense. Plus, Tucker would be reuniting with Daryl Morey.

As for the Rockets, trading away P.J. Tucker makes sense. They’re ranked 14th in the Western Conference with an 11-23 record. After failing to win a championship with James Harden before trading him, the front office is in the midst of a rebuilding process.

We’ll see what happens with P.J. Tucker, but he should be on the move soon. We’ll see if he winds up on the Sixers or one of the many other NBA contenders expressing interest.
