RUMOR: Russell Westbrook’s agent pushed Rockets to reignite trade talks for John Wall

The trade involving Russell Westbrook for John Wall, sending Westbrook to the Washington Wizards, blindsided the NBA world on Wednesday night. Despite the random timing of it, Westbrook’s agent reportedly pushed for the Houston Rockets to reignite trade talks for Wall, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Before the 2020 NBA Draft last month, there were rumors that the Wizards and the Rockets could discuss a swap of Westbrook and Wall. The discussions never got serious, with neither team feeling like finalizing a deal would be beneficial for either side at that point.

However, both Westbrook and Wall were growing restless of their roles on their respective teams. Provided that, Westbrook’s agent reportedly went to the Rockets and informed them to reopen trade discussions with the Wizards in hopes to strike a deal.

After both sides hashed it out, Houston sent Westbrook to Washington in exchange for Wall and a first-round pick. While both point guards got their wish of being traded, both of them have questions to answer going forward.

One reason Westbrook didn’t have much interest on the trade market was due to his massive contract. Westbrook has three years remaining on his current contract that is worth $132, with him having a player option in 2022-2023.

On the other hand, Wall hasn’t played since December in the 2018 season due to an array of injuries. Ironically enough, Wall is also set to make $132 million over the next three seasons with a player option in the 2022-2023 season.

Russell Westbrook definitely wanted to go to Washington after a tumultuous year in Houston. He might have his agent to thank for the move happening.
