RUMOR: Russell Westbrook could return from quad injury this weekend

Russell Westbrook, Rockets

A timely update has been provided on the status of Houston Rockets superstar Russell Westbrook, as the former MVP continues on his road to recovery from a quad injury he recently sustained. In line with previous reports, Westbrook is indeed set to miss the first couple of games of his team’s first-round matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This update comes straight via Shams Charania of The Athletic:

Previous reports stated that Westbrook will be forced to sit out “at least” the first few games of the series, and this new update falls in line with that earlier timetable.

However, this seems to be a best-case scenario of sorts, with the 31-year-old potentially able to return for Game 3 on Saturday. As expected, however, he will miss Games 1 and 2 of the series, which are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

The loss of Westbrook is expected to be a huge blow for the Rockets. The 6-foot-3 point guard has been outstanding since his summer move from the Thunder, and his backcourt partnership with James Harden has been nothing short of amazing for Houston.

For this reason, the Rockets will be more than happy to welcome him back as soon as they possibly can. Whether or not he returns at a hundred percent is an altogether different question.

As for the Thunder, they have arguably been the biggest surprise package of the season. This young team led by future Hall of Famer Chris Paul — who let’s not forget was offloaded by the Rockets last summer — will look to cause some problems for the Rockets, and if everything goes according to plan, they might just be able to serve up a first-round upset for Houston.
