RUMOR: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson expected to receive interest from Suns, Timberwolves, Rockets

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Nets

Former Brooklyn Nets forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is reportedly expected to receive interest from the Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets once free agency begins this Sunday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Nets decided not to extend a $3.59 million qualifying offer to Hollis-Jefferson, who now becomes an unrestricted free agent.

They drafted Hollis-Jefferson with the 23rd overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft out of the University of Arizona.

Forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is expected to receive interest from several teams as an unrestricted free agent — including the Suns, Timberwolves and Rockets, league sources said. Teams view Hollis-Jefferson as a versatile forward, capable of defending all five positions and providing energy in the rotation.

This past season, Hollis-Jefferson averaged 8.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists for the Nets, who made the playoffs but lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round in five games. The lefty shot 41.1 percent from the field and 64.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The Nets are expected to land All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving once free agency starts. Brooklyn is also trying to get two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant to come with Irving.

Hollis-Jefferson has a bright future, but the Nets needed to free up cap space to sign both Irving and another star, so not extending Hollis-Jefferson his qualifying offer was a move everyone in the league saw coming.
