Rumor: Rockets’ Victor Oladipo could see third team in same season by trade deadline

Victor Oladipo, Rockets

Houston Rockets guard Victor Oladipo could find himself on the move once more this season ahead of the 2021 NBA trade deadline. According to Tim Bontemps of ESPN, Oladipo and P.J. Tucker are two names being mentioned around the league as possible trade candidates.

Oladipo was already involved in one of the most talked-about trades this season, which also saw James Harden to go the Brooklyn Nets and Caris LeVert go to the Indiana Pacers. In the immediate aftermath of that deal, it was reported that Oladipo still wanted another move elsewhere, with the Miami Heat mentioned as a preferred destination.

Oladipo is set to be a free agent this offseason, so the Rockets must decide if they want to try to re-sign him or cash in on a trade. He has been playing well alongside John Wall, with Houston recently winning six games in a row before Wednesday night’s loss. The Rockets look better without Harden so far and sit at 10-10 on the season, which is good for 10th in the Western Conference.

If the Rockets do decide to move on from Oladipo, the New York Knicks are another team to watch in the sweepstakes. This is what A. Sherrod Blakely of Bleacher Report had to say on the matter:

That’s why Houston Rockets guard Victor Oladipo will be a name to keep an eye on. The former All-Star has had a slew of injuries in recent years but is among the more talented two-way players when healthy. League sources say the Knicks are among the teams interested in Oladipo and will be closely monitoring the impending free agent’s play leading up to the deadline and beyond if he’s not moved by then.

Oladipo’s situation will certainly be one to monitor as the March 25 trade deadline approaches.
