RUMOR: Rockets’ true level of interest in trading for no. 1 pick, Cade Cunningham

Rockets, Cade Cunningham, NBA Draft

As the 2021 NBA Draft draws closer, it seems like the Houston Rockets are also ramping up their activities in a bid to land the no. 1 pick and get Cade Cunningham.

According to the latest report from Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Rockets are “aggressively pursuing” the no. 1 pick as they remain high in Cunningham.

For what it’s worth, an earlier report also revealed that the Rockets would have conversations with the Pistons in the lead-up to the draft. It is unknown if the two sides have started discussions or have any progress about a possible deal, but it’s clear Houston has every desire to put Cade Cunningham to their young roster.

Cunningham hasn’t spoken to the Rockets, though. The 19-year-old playmaker decided to meet only the Pistons since he is confident he’s going no. 1 in the NBA Draft. However, he did say he is ready to talk to Houston if ever they trade up for him–as long as there is still time before the annual rookie selection.

If the Rockets fail to get the Pistons’ top pick–which is said to be more likely unless Houston gives a mind-blowing offer–they are reportedly leaning on drafting Jalen Green who could fit well beside Kevin Porter Jr. in the backcourt.

Whether they succeed on trading up or not, the Rockets are still in a great position to add a young talent that could very well be the next face of the franchise.
